1st Tour Stop - The Magnificent Occidente Bridge

The Occidente bridge, located in western Antioquia, is a historic suspension bridge that connects the towns of Olaya and Santa Fe de Antioquia across the Cauca River. Once the longest suspension bridge in South America, it was designed by engineer José María Villa, who also contributed to the Brooklyn Bridge's construction. Built between 1887 and 1895, the bridge features a central roadway for vehicles and two pedestrian paths, all with wood surfaces. Recognized as a National Monument of Colombia, the bridge is supported by four pyramidal towers and showcases a unique suspension and cable-stayed design.
